HOW WE STARTED
Our family has been traveling to the island of Abaco in the Bahamas for twenty years. In 2013, we were introduced to a group of children and families living inland on the island. For many in this community, meeting basic needs is an ever-present challenge. We held several clothes and shoe drives to help meet these needs. We also learned that many kids might not be able to purchase the books that were required by the public schools. We started by purchasing books for a few kids that lived in the community. With the support of both the Austin and Abaco community, our mission has grown to provide books to almost 200 kids in need. We strive to help the children of the community through educational empowerment, and out of that desire, ASA was formed.
WHAT WE DO
ASA (Austin Serving Abaco) has a goal to share the gospel with the community of Abaco. We have a goal to help as many kids as possible stay in school and graduate to pave a path for a better future. Through many avenues including sponsorships for students, backpack drives, shoe and clothing drives, and mission trips with partner organizations, ASA provides resources, supplies, and support to the children of Abaco.
